3. Zero-Waste

For this project the aim was to design and create a Zero Waste garment. Researching and exploring zero waste fashion techniques such as zero waste pattern making and upcycling. In this project I decided to focus more on upcycling techniques and work with materials that I already had. For the garment I decided to upcycle an old knit jumper into a long, contemporary looking dress. I draped the jumper in various ways on the mannequin until I was happy with the drape and silhouette. I deconstructed the jumper by cutting its side seams open and then reconstructed it using an overlocker, domestic sewing machine and some hand-sewing.
